Young Vic sets 2026/27 season with Thelma & Louise musical, revivals and global work

The Young Vic has announced a wide-ranging 2026/27 season, with artistic director Nadia Fall unveiling a programme of premieres, revivals and international work running from September 2026 to July 2027 across the theatre’s Main House and the Maria Studio. The Main House will open with a stage adaptation of Thelma & Louise, reimagined as a new musical featuring music and lyrics by Neko Case.
Directed by Trip Cullman and starring Amy Lennox and Rachel Tucker, it is scheduled to run from 3 September to 24 October 2026. Also in the Main House, Eurotrash, an English-language adaptation of Christian Kracht’s novel, will star Ben Whishaw and Kathryn Hunter.
Adapted by Colin Teevan and directed by Walter Meierjohann, the production reunites a creative team behind previous Young Vic hits. Portuguese playwright Tiago Rodrigues brings La Distance to the UK for the first time, following its debut at the Festival d’Avignon, while debbie tucker green will premiere a new work, dissent, exploring human behaviour.
Fall will direct a revival of August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean, marking its first UK staging in two decades and closing the Main House season. In the Maria Studio, the season includes the London debut of Shedinburgh, an immersive showcase of Edinburgh Fringe work featuring artists such as Inua Ellams, Sara Pascoe and Bryony Kimmings.
Director Ewa Dina will make her Young Vic debut with Girls, Theresa Ikoko’s award-winning play set against the backdrop of the 2014 kidnappings in Nigeria. Standalone events include a talk on the science of the arts by Daisy Fancourt, hosted by Hannah MacInnes, and a special edition of R.A.P.
Party from Ellams celebrating the work of D’Angelo. Fall said the programme aims to create space for dialogue and connection through storytelling, bringing together global perspectives and “profoundly human” narratives across the theatre’s spaces.
Alongside the artistic slate, the Young Vic will continue development initiatives including the Creators’ Program and its partnership with the JMK Award, and will maintain community work through Young Vic Taking Part. Priority booking for selected productions opens on 20 April, with general sale from 23 April.
Further shows, including dissent, Gem of the Ocean and Shedinburgh, will go on sale later in the year.
