US Embassy in Beirut urges Americans to leave Lebanon while flights are available

The US Embassy in Beirut has urged U.S. citizens to leave Lebanon while commercial flights remain available, citing a volatile and rapidly changing security environment. In a security alert, the embassy said it is closely monitoring conditions and advised those who choose to stay to prepare contingency plans and follow news updates for breaking developments.
The alert warned of unexploded ordnance in areas where military operations have taken place and cautioned people not to visit collapsed structures or impacted zones. It emphasized that individuals should never touch anything resembling unexploded ordnance. According to the embassy, the threat of terrorism and kidnapping remains present throughout the country.
Areas frequented by U.S. citizens and tourists in Beirut and elsewhere in Lebanon could be targeted. The embassy advised avoiding demonstrations, protests, and any large gatherings, noting that such events can turn violent with little notice. The alert also highlighted transportation disruptions, stating that protesters have blocked major roads, including thoroughfares between downtown Beirut and the area where the U.S.
