Transport blockade snarls Bogotá after fuel-price talks with Petro government fail

Traffic in Colombia’s capital descended into chaos Wednesday as cargo and passenger carriers pressed a protest that blocked access to Bogotá, choking key approaches and disrupting movement across the city. Drivers said they were demonstrating against rising fuel prices and escalated their action after negotiations with President Gustavo Petro’s government failed.
The stalled talks prompted transport workers to continue measures they said were aimed at forcing the state to address the cost burden. The protest, led by cargo and passenger carriers, focused on access routes into the capital and generated widespread disruption on city streets.
Organizers framed the action as a response to what they described as the breakdown of dialogue over fuel price relief. As the protest continued Wednesday, drivers maintained pressure over fuel costs while authorities and transport operators remained at odds following the failed negotiations.
