Qatar warns against politicizing Strait of Hormuz, backs Pakistan’s mediation
DOHA, April 14 — Qatar urged that the security of the Strait of Hormuz not be jeopardized by escalating tensions and called for shipping to resume immediately without preconditions, a senior official said at a weekly media briefing.
Majed Al Ansari, advisor to the prime minister and spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, warned against attempts to politicize the vital maritime route and underscored its critical role in the global economy. He said Doha’s position on the current regional environment remains focused on ensuring safe navigation and preventing the strait from becoming a flashpoint.
Al Ansari added that Qatar is actively engaging with regional and international partners to help de‑escalate tensions and work toward a solution. He described ongoing outreach as part of a broader effort to stabilize the situation and keep trade flowing through the waterway.
The spokesperson also confirmed continuing communication with Pakistan and expressed support for Islamabad’s mediation efforts. He emphasized the need to strengthen regional coordination to advance dialogue, framing cooperative diplomacy as essential to reducing risks and safeguarding the strait.
Qatar’s statements signal a push to restore normal maritime activity while aligning with initiatives aimed at lowering tensions, with further discussions expected as diplomatic contacts continue.
