Man airlifted with life-threatening injuries after stabbing in Merrigum caravan park brawl
A man has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed during a brawl at a caravan park in Merrigum, a small Victorian town about 25 kilometres from Shepparton. Police said officers were called to the park at about 3:45am today following several reports of a fight involving knives.
When they arrived, they found several people believed to be alcohol-affected moving through the grounds and a critically injured man inside one of the cabins. The injured man, a 30-year-old from the local area, was treated by paramedics before being flown to hospital.
Two men were arrested nearby, and police seized a knife from the scene. Detectives from the Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit will interview the men, who are a 28-year-old from Cootamundra, New South Wales, and a 51-year-old from Merrigum. Police have urged anyone who witnessed the brawl or has information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
