Kuwait says Iranian drone strikes damage oil, power and desalination facilities

Kuwait City, Apr 8 — Kuwait’s Interior Ministry said a series of Iranian drone attacks since dawn on Wednesday struck vital energy infrastructure, causing significant material damage and igniting multiple fires. Brigadier General Nasser Bousleib, the ministry’s spokesperson, detailed the strikes in a media briefing.

According to Bousleib, the attacks targeted facilities belonging to the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation as well as the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy. Multiple sites were hit, including oil installations and three power and water desalination plants.

The strikes damaged infrastructure across the affected locations, including generation units, distillation systems and fuel tanks, he said. Several fires broke out following the attacks. The ministry said precautionary measures were implemented in coordination with relevant authorities to protect workers and secure the impacted sites.

Bousleib added that safety protocols were activated swiftly as crews moved to contain the fires and assess damage. Authorities reported a total of 776 incidents involving shrapnel since the escalation began, including 18 recent cases attributed to falling debris from interception operations, the Interior Ministry said.
