Kuwait, Saudi leaders discuss regional developments, US‑Israel–Iran ceasefire agreement

Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah spoke by phone on Wednesday with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, discussing the latest regional developments, including what they described as a ceasefire agreement reached between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other after mediation led by Pakistan.
The two leaders reaffirmed Kuwait and Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at promoting stability and security across the region. The call came amid a broader run of Gulf diplomacy. On Friday in Antalya, Türkiye, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi met Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
They discussed regional and international issues, including recent Iranian attacks on GCC states and the implications for regional security, stability, and the global and regional economy. Albudaiwi expressed appreciation for Switzerland’s supportive stance toward the GCC position on these attacks.
Cassis reiterated Switzerland’s condemnation and expressed condolences for the loss of life, while both sides emphasized strengthening political coordination under the GCC–Switzerland memorandum of understanding. Also on Friday, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah held a call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to review regional developments.
The two discussed efforts to ensure the continued flow of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and the need to consolidate the ceasefire in Lebanon, and underscored prioritizing dialogue and diplomatic solutions to achieve regional security and stability. In parallel, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha on Thursday following a shuttle tour that began in Saudi Arabia.
According to the Amiri Diwan, Sharif condemned attacks targeting Qatar and other countries in the region, affirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with Doha, and voiced support for measures to protect Qatar’s sovereignty and safeguard its security and stability. The Emir expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s role in supporting deescalation and diplomatic dialogue.
Official sources said both sides stressed backing the path of deescalation and strengthening international coordination to ensure regional security and stability, including maintaining the smooth flow of energy supply chains through vital maritime routes. They also discussed bilateral ties and ways to expand cooperation.
Taken together, the calls and meetings highlighted a coordinated Gulf push to manage tensions, protect critical waterways and energy routes, and keep channels of communication open as leaders seek to reinforce regional stability.
