Democratic Party figure Rexhep Ismaili shot dead in Sarandë bar; MP Ina Zhupa urges swift justice

A day after 66-year-old Rexhep Ismaili was shot dead inside his own bar in the coastal city of Sarandë, Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa said she was deeply shaken by the killing and urged authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice. Ismaili was part of the Democratic Party’s leadership structures in Sarandë.
Zhupa said the party had lost a leader of its local structures, a tireless contributor and a valued collaborator. According to her, Ismaili also led the Çamëria association and was a strong voice in defense of national causes. In a message of condolence, Zhupa described Ismaili as a man of values and a devoted patriot.
She extended her sympathy to his family, relatives and all who knew and appreciated him. The lawmaker called on the State Police and the Prosecution to act with full responsibility for a rapid clarification of the murder and to place those responsible before justice.
