Delhi officer’s wife seeks bail as court adjourns hearing; Birbhum clash injures police, 14 held
In separate developments, the Delhi High Court adjourned a bail hearing for Seema Rani Khakha, wife of suspended Delhi officer Premoday Khakha, while police in Birbhum district were injured during a clash that followed the disturbance of a grave near a cemetery.
Authorities in Birbhum said fourteen people have been arrested and raids are ongoing to apprehend others. Khakha, who has been in custody since August 2023, sought bail before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma. The prosecution opposed her release, citing concerns that the victim’s mother could be influenced.
After brief submissions, the court adjourned the matter for further arguments. Separately, police officers, including an OC, were injured in Birbhum when miscreants hurled stones and bricks at them. The violence broke out after an earthmover digging near a graveyard disturbed a grave, triggering a confrontation between local groups.
Officials said fourteen individuals have been arrested, and searches are continuing to identify and detain all those involved. Further arguments on Khakha’s bail are expected at the next hearing. In Birbhum, the investigation and operations to track down remaining suspects are continuing, according to authorities.
