Confined 17 opens in Melbourne with works by 424 Indigenous artists; YIRRAMBOI 2027 commission announced
A major showcase in Naarm/Melbourne is putting hundreds of First Nations voices on the walls. The Torch’s Confined 17 exhibition features artworks by 424 Indigenous Australian artists with lived experience of incarceration in Victoria, now on display in the city.
The exhibition is chaired by Benson Saulo. Artist Tupun Wultatinyeri is among those connected to the program, which brings together creative work by people with direct experience of the Victorian corrections system. In a separate development for the cultural calendar, Allara Briggs Pattison and Dr Lou Bennett AM have been commissioned for YIRRAMBOI 2027.
The commission will transform the album Ganbinan! into a, immersive production. Together, these developments highlight a busy period for First Nations arts in Victoria, with Confined 17 currently open in Melbourne and the YIRRAMBOI project set for 2027.
